License to Value: Data Act Driven Transformation of Industrial Data Use is a 24‑month co‑research project that examines how the EU Data Act reshapes industrial data use, value chains and firm strategy.
This matters now because the Act’s most impactful provisions start “biting” in the early implementation window and could shift growth, value creation and power in industrial data ecosystems—an opportunity with significant upside for Finnish industry if firms and policymakers act, but with risks of inertia and mixed investment incentives if they do not.
The project is led at Aalto by the School of Science’s Department of Industrial Engineering and Management (coordination; PI Dr. Timo Seppälä), with the School of Business’s CKIR as the project office, and contributions from the Department of Computer Science and the School of Engineering’s Department of Energy and Mechanical Engineering. The core team includes Dr. Seppälä, Dr. Ruurik Holm, Dr. Roy Nyberg, Prof. Marko Turpeinen, Dr. Jari Juhanko, and doctoral researchers Sajjad Salehi and Teemu Toroi. Collaboration with Combient Group broadens access to Nordic industry and supports a “sibling” project in Sweden to extend impact across the region.
