The Research Group for Systemic Innovation (SYSTEMIC)



The Systemic Team conducts cutting edge multidisciplinary research on human-centric, demand- and user-driven open innovation ecosystems. Our research focuses on the various structures, drivers and enablers related to systemic innovation and knowledge, with the objective to contribute to the existing knowledge base on open innovation ecosystems and related infrastructures, management models and processes required to respond to fast-evolving global markets and emerging socio-techno-economic demand side trends.

Systemic Team takes advantage of collaborative research approaches and methods for further harmonization, increased relevance and theoretical contribution. The Team seeks to contribute to knowledge and innovation research through methodology development and practice-based experimentation on enabling RDI infrastructures for service, product and concept creation in demand- and user-driven open innovation ecosystems.

  • Innovation ecosystems for pre-market concept validation for sustainability and scalability for industry creation and convergence
  • Service creation in human centric open ecosystems
  • Sustainable growth through innovation in public sector interface
  • Knowledge-based renewal of companies
  • Economic, societal and social impacts of emerging technologies and technology enabled services

 

Wide Range of Partnerships


Our research is carried out in real life context and pilots in partnerships with companies, societies, cities other universities, as well as leading scholars. The main research partners include Stanford University, MIT, IBBT, Barcelona Technical University and Amsterdam Vrije Universiteit. The most important corporate partners include Nokia, Phillips and SAP. The Team participates actively in collaboration with Finnish and European cities including Helsinki, Oulu, Barcelona, Manchester and Amsterdam.


World-Class Publications


Systemic Team has published extensively in both research- and practice-based international conferences and communities, including International Concurrent Enterpricing (ICE), International Society Program of Innovation management (ISPIM), e-Challenges, BLED, as well as Service Design Network and  European Network of Living Labs (ENoLL). The targeted journals for the coming year include e.g. the European Journal of Innovation Management, European Business Review as well as International Journal of Public Sector Management.
