Center for Knowledge and Innovation Research

The Research Group for EMOtional Interaction, Decision making, and technology (EMOID)

The mission of EMOID is to conduct world-class research to increase our understanding of the emotional and cognitive processes when humans are interacting with ICT, media, services, and other people in different contexts, including decision-making situations.

The research foci of EMOID include:

  • Mediated and non-mediated social interaction (e.g., during technology and media use or a service encounter)
  • Emotional and cognitive processes during decision making (neuroeconomics)
  • Entertainment and serious digital games
  • User experience of technology

Emotion- and cognition-related psychophysiological recordings can be carried out when people are interacting in different contexts (e.g., laboratory, street, their own home).

EMOID has high expertise in using psychophysiological recordings to index emotional and cognitive processes when humans are interacting with ICT, media, services, and other people (video ). EMOID has a state-of-the-art psychophysiology laboratory, including data acquisition systems (Brain Products, Contact Precision  Instruments) for recording electroencephalography (EEG), facial electromyography (EMG), electrocardiography (ECG), and electrodermal activity (EDA), among other signals. The group has also several advanced mobile psychophysiological measurement devices (Varioport-ARM, Becker Meditec) that enable the aforementioned psychophysiological recordings in real-life contexts. The research of EMOID yields design-rules for creating, and facilitates the innovation of, technologies and services that are optimal for human beings from the perspective of emotional and cognitive processes and social interaction.

Focus:

–Mediated and non-mediated social interaction (e.g., during technology and media use or a service encounter)
